Queveen Kelleher transfers to Brentford for £18m

Football

After years of serving as a substitute for Liverpool’s trusted Alisson Becker, Kelleher has finally entered the starting role, joining Brentford for a price of up to £18m.

The Irish international came to the Bees for an initial price of £12.5 million, with a possible £5.5 million surcharge. He will replace Mark Fleken, who recently moved to Leverkusen.

"I don't think it's hard for me to leave [Liverpool]," Kelleher said after finishing the transfer. "I feel that for my own career, it's time for me to leave, become number one, and play every week."

This transfer not only marks a new chapter for Kelleher and Brentford, but also a moment of change for his childhood club, Linma Hong Wanderers.

The Sun reported that when Kelleher signed with Liverpool from the Wanderers at the age of 16 in 2015, the deal included 20% of the terms of the sale. The clause now entitles the Münster Senior League team (playing in the third-tier league of Irish football) to a windfall of about £2.5 million, the largest sale fee the Irish club has ever received. In an interview with the Irish Times, Paul Higgins, chairman of the Wandering Ninmahe, said: “This will prepare us for a long time to come. “I am very happy,” he added. “First of all, I am very happy for Queveen Kellehe himself and his family.” We always believe that Kelleher will succeed. Now, thanks to a career-deciding transfer, Kelleh not only secures his future, but also changes the course of his childhood club.
