He was born on October 2, 1982 in Hanford, California. He is 7 feet 1 inch (216 cm) tall and weighs 240 pounds (109 kg). He has attracted much attention in high school for his outstanding inside dominance and athleticism. At the 2001 NBA Draft, Chandler was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the second pick and was immediately traded to the Chicago Bulls to start his career. In his rookie season, he mainly served as a substitute, averaging 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, laying the foundation for his subsequent growth. In the 2006-07 season, Chandler joined the Dallas Mavericks and formed a backcourt combination with Steve Nash. He still averaged 62% of the shots per game, nearly half of which were dunks, becoming a reliable barrier and finisher for the team's inside. In the 2010-11 season, he won the first championship in team history with the Mavericks and served as the starting center. He averaged 9.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in the playoffs, effectively connecting both offense and defense. In the summer of 2011, Chandler switched to the New York Knicks, and in his debut, he became the team's defensive pillar with his dominant franchise protection and swift tips. In the 2011-12 season, he was awarded the NBA Defensive Player of the Year and was also selected as the first and third team of the best defensive team, consolidating the league's top defensive center.

Candler not only shines in the NBA, but also won gold medals at the 2010 World Championships and the 2012 London Olympics with the US men's basketball team, demonstrating his equally indispensable defensive influence and team value in international competitions.

Since then, Chandler has played for the Phoenix Suns, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets.
