Lakers General Manager Robert Pelinka was interviewed and responded positively to various speculations surrounding LeBron James recently
On August 3, Lakers General Manager Robert Pelinka was interviewed and responded positively to the recent speculations surrounding LeBron James, giving anxious Lakers fans a reassurance.
Pelinka firmly said: "All our interactions with LeBron and his team are positive and mutually supportive." He specifically mentioned the communication with James' agent Ritchie Paul: "The dialogue with Ritchie has always been open and continuous, and this communication channel has never been closed."
This statement has effectively responded to the outside world's speculation about the tension between the two sides. Although James chose to execute a $52.6 million player option this summer to stay in the team until next season, discussions about whether he will stay in the Lakers for a long time in the future and even renew his contract in advance have never stopped. Some reports also pointed out that the Lakers management seems to be more inclined to allow James to fulfill his existing contract and become a free agent next summer.
The initiative in retirement tour, the Lakers handed over to James's core question in the future - will he end his legendary career as a Lakers player? Pelinka gave a respectful and open answer.
"Whether LeBron retires with the Lakers depends first on his personal and family decision on the length of his career," Pelinka emphasized. "We really want to respect his right to independently plan his schedule, which I think is crucial."
Pelinka also did not hide the Lakers' expectations: "Of course, if you have the opportunity to witness his retirement as a Lakers player, it will be of great significance to the team and the fans." According to multiple sources, James, who is nearly 40 years old, is still in excellent form in athletics. He himself clearly expressed his strong willingness to continue to compete after the end of next season.
