Celtics deserve Jonathan Kumingga, rebuilding their dynasty in the fastest way
According to Sidant Gupta, a contributor to US sports media F/W. The Celtics face several challenges this offseason. From injury to lineup adjustments, the Celtics are no longer the championship-level team they were two years ago. With the second luxury tax sank over Boston, the team had to make some tough decisions to cut their wages. This leads to a methodical approach involving transactions and signing high-value low-cost contracts.
In the process, the Celtics won Anfini Simmons, the talented young defender. Unfortunately, Boston is still financially tight and has been exploring how to uninstall Simmons’ contract for financial flexibility. While this is a reliable approach, it doesn't bring them closer to returning to championship form. Instead, we propose a different approach, one that can help them return to competition as soon as possible.
Suggested deal details
Celtics get: Jonathan Kumingga
Warriors get: Derek White, 2031 first-round pick
Surprisingly, the Celtics may choose to sell Derek White and a first-round pick in 2031 to get a forward with star potential to change the status quo, here is analyzing the impact of the deal on the Celtics.
Celtics can return to the championship form?
This deal is equally beneficial to the Warriors, but it means more to the Celtics. Kumingga's arrival brought the Celtics back to the championship timeline. With Kumingga’s estimated annual salary reaching $20 million, the Celtics will successfully cut $8 million by trading White. While this may weaken their perimeter defense, Boston needs to take such risks.
The 22-year-old striker has great talent and physical tools. His height, athleticism and other natural qualities only complement his offensive skills and defensive potential. In a more prominent role, Kumingga has proven his ability to produce effective results on the offensive end. In this regard, he averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, which may not fully reflect his influence on the court. The arrival of Kumingga also marks the Celtics' recovery. As Tatum exits the rotation, the 22-year-old will join Celtics stars Jaylen Brown, Simmons and Pritchard. This may prove to be a very powerful offensive rotation.
Kuminga's defensive advantage is relatively untapped, and many people think this is a shortcoming on his side. But considering the body tools he can use and in the right environment, the forward can also be a very useful defender. His development next season has laid the foundation for the Celtics’ 2026-27 season, and Tatum will return to the field. If Tatum continues to make progress in his recovery process, he may join the team later this season. With the lineups of Tatum, Brown, Simmons and Cumingga, Boston may be on the road to championship glory. Whether this season or next season, the Celtics need to take the necessary actions to fill this core squad with talent.
