Capela has been signed for 21.5 million in three years, and the Rockets have added to their abilities? Give up the 29-year-old center, and the three-pointer shortcomings have been magnified

Basketball

On July 2, if the Rockets signed Finney Smith with 53 million in four years to make up for the Rockets' defense and three-pointer shortcomings at the 3rd position after Dillon Brooks was traded, then the Rockets signed another contract - that is, to sign 21.5 million in three years and then win "Biu King" Capela, the deal is very surprising. Finney Smith is the 3D wing that the Rockets need. He can shoot three-pointers and defend. He is actually not very old at the age of 32. He was the best wing player in the Lakers last season in the Lakers. There is nothing wrong with the Rockets introducing him.

But on the other hand, Capela's current condition is declining seriously. Not only does he run slowly and jump low, but his figure is also seriously distorted. After gaining weight, Capela is obviously no longer the "cake king" that can eat and defend the Rockets many years ago. Capela is at best a second-rate center. The reason why he is willing to accept the Rockets' three-year contract of 21.5 million is not only because he wants to return to the Rockets, but more importantly, the Rockets' contract is very generous to the "Pie King". Moreover, the three-year unsecured contract is also a huge benefit for Capela. After all, he had already lost the starting lineup with the Hawks last season, and even the rotation lineup can't be even in.

Capela is no longer the Capela she partnered with Harden and Paul 7 years ago. The Rockets' signing Capela is indeed a bit extravagant. It’s not that Capela is not suitable for the Rockets, nor that Capela is not capable, but that the Rockets are not short of centers at all: Shin Kyung is the starter in the interior, and Smith Jr. can also play the center. Don’t forget that the Rockets used a three-year, 39 million contract not long ago, to leave veteran center Adams.

Shin Kyung and Adams should be the main rotation at the No. 5 position next season. Shin Kyung is expected to play 35 minutes per game, while Adams' playing time is around 12-15 minutes. Of course, in the playoffs, Adams may get more playing time and form a double tower with another Rockets core, Shin Kyung, just like last season's playoffs.

Adams and Capela have similar styles of playing, both of whom are not good at shooting and have no offensive ability, but it is obvious that 31-year-old Adams is much better in form and much stronger than 31-year-old Capela. It is indeed a bit redundant to sign Capela with precious salary space. After all, with Adams as a substitute in this position, there is no need to sign the "Biu King". In addition, the Rockets are likely to give up 29-year-old center Jock Landale, but Landale's annual salary of 8 million is actually not high.

Sign Capela, send it away or cut off Landale. Although the Rockets seem to have further improved the quality of the interior defense, I wonder if you have ever thought: Capela and Adams have similar styles in their playing style, neither can shoot nor attack. If there is no good guard passing the ball to them, the so-called "Pie King" will be difficult to return to their previous state. Landal is different. Although he is less famous than Capela, he is two years younger than Capela. In addition to averaging 4 points and 3 rebounds last season, Landal's three-point shooting percentage is as high as 42%. He is an all-around center who can score at low posts, also pull up to high posts to shoot three-pointers, and complete mid- and long-range shots.

Rashly cut or send away Landale will obviously make the Rockets' three-point shortcomings more obvious. Although Smith Jr. can shoot three-pointers, her three-point shooting percentage last season is only 35%. Langdale is the Rockets' best big shot last season. Now that he has given up 29-year-old Langdale and changed Capela, the Rockets' interior has not only become crowded and repetitive, but also weakened his three-point shooting ability. It is obvious that relying on Smith Jr. to shoot three-pointers alone is difficult to solve the Rockets' inside shooting problem.
