Suns rumor: People familiar with the matter announce that the Suns terminate their contract with Bradley Bill "100%"
The Phoenix Suns reportedly are eager to get rid of Bradley Bill's contract at all costs this summer.
Recently, the Phoenix Suns made headlines for hiring former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Jordan Otter as the team's next head coach. The team had just parted ways with Mike Budenholzer in the previous weeks, and Budenholzer coached the team for a disastrous season.
With the vacancies in the head coaching position filled, the Suns are now focusing on the team’s real problem – the roster. Last year, the "three-headed snake" lineup of Kevin Durant, Bradley Bill and Devin Booker simply cannot compete in today's NBA, and people familiar with the matter expect one or more of the players to leave.
Recently, John Gambarodo of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix Channel reported on how the team viewed Bill’s situation.
"They don't want him back. But he can't trade, and if he doesn't agree to the buyout, they might have to keep him," he reported on X (formerly Twitter). "One of the questions they ask candidates during the coaching cycle is how you would deal with Bill. They don't want him 100% and are thinking about how to get rid of him." The Suns are in a tough situation, as Gambadoro mentioned in his report, one of the particularly difficult factors for Bill's to get rid of is his non-trade clause, which allows the defender to veto any potential deals the Suns have reached for him.
Bill is one of only two players in the NBA to include such clauses on their contracts, and the Washington Wizards inexplicably gave him the clause before sending him to the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns are generally expected to consider signing Durant this summer. The Phoenix Suns have won only one playoff series since Durant joined midway through the 2023 season, so it would never be surprising if the Suns gave up on this attempt and tried to reorganize around Devin Booker.
While Durant will certainly have a lot of suitors this summer, that's not the case for Bill, and it will be very interesting to see how the Suns will choose.
