The Suns signed a new star in the backcourt with a training camp contract. Should he be cut before the start of the regular season?

Basketball

According to the report of OOSSports reporter Rob Murrows, the Phoenix Suns signed with Alex Schumacher, a backcourt player who was previously in free agency. Schumacher received a contract with Exhibit 10 training camp from the Suns, and he also had the opportunity to prove his strength through training camp and preseason.

Schumacher was born in February 2001 and is 24 years old, 191cm tall and weighs 84kg. He was the undrafted in the NBA draft last year. Last season, the backcourt player from Seattle University played for the Chicago Bulls’ subordinate team Windy City Bulls and the Suns’ subordinate team Valley Suns. Schumacher made a total of 48 appearances in the NBA Development League, averaging 22.6 minutes per game, averaging 8.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 1.8 turnovers and 1.6 fouls. His shooting percentage was 39.6%, three-point shooting percentage was 24.3%, and free throw shooting percentage was 82.5%. Schumacher's performance when playing for the Windy City Bulls was not ideal, which was surprising. He was also traded to the Valley Suns in the second half of the season. After joining the Valley Suns, his performance has indeed improved a bit. He has also shown certain scoring ability, organization and tandem ability, but his overall performance is still not particularly ideal.

Previously, Schumacher also represented the Suns in the NBA Summer League. In the summer league, Schumacher made a total of 4 appearances, averaging 12 minutes of playing time, averaging 9 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.8 steals, 1.5 turnovers and 2 fouls, shooting percentage of 44.8%, three-point shooting percentage of 41.7%, and free throw shooting percentage of 83.3%. Schumacher's overall performance in the summer league was sloppy, but Schumacher also completed a small outbreak in the final match against the Portland Trail Blazers in the summer league. In this game, Schumacher made 5 of 10 shots, 1 of 3 from outside the three-point line, 5 of 6 free throws, scored 16 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals, and had 3 turnovers and 5 fouls. The plus and negative value also reached +2. His outstanding performance also made a significant contribution to the team's victory.

Judging from Schumacher's resume and performance last season, if nothing unexpected happens, he should be cut by the Suns before the start of the new season and continue to appear in the Valley Suns' lineup. Considering that Schumacher received a training camp contract with Exhibit 10 clauses from the Suns, he was cut by the Suns before the start of the regular season, joined the Valley Suns after the start of the regular season, and stayed in the Valley Suns for 60 days, he could receive a maximum of $85,300 from the Suns. I don’t know what kind of performance he will perform in the NBA Development League in the new season.
