Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard seems to get along well with his rookie teammate Yang Hansen.

Lillard is expected to miss all games in the 2025-26 season due to an Achilles tendon injury. During his recovery period, his main role will be to coach young teammates, including rookie Yang Hansen.

The 20-year-old Chinese center has performed well in the NBA Summer League, showing comprehensiveness, vision and outstanding technical level. He was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 16th overall pick in the draft and was soon traded to the Trail Blazers.

Although far away in a foreign land, Yang Hansen has gradually adapted in Portland, and becoming familiar with his teammates has helped him a lot. When Ben Golliver of ClutchPoints asked him about his most memorable memory when watching Lillard play for the Trail Blazers, Yang Hansen gave a brilliant response: he tapped his wrist.

Those who understand will naturally understand it. This is Lillard's iconic "looking at the watch" celebration.

Yang Hansen is the ninth Chinese player to be selected by the NBA and the third highest draft pick, second only to No. 1 Yao Ming in 2002 and Yi Jianlian in 2007.

It is reported that Yang Hansen will not participate in next month's FIBA Asian Cup to devote himself to the training of the Trail Blazers. He expressed his gratitude to the national team for their understanding:

"From the moment I decided to come to the United States to pursue my dreams, I have always felt the support of the entire Chinese basketball community," Yang Hansen said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency. "The opportunity to focus on adapting to the pace of the NBA and improving personal abilities is inseparable from everyone's open attitude. This tolerance for the growth of young players really touched me."

With Lillard's guidance, Yang Hansen will adapt to the Trail Blazers' environment faster. Perhaps it won’t take long to usher in the moment of “Yang Time”.
