Can Ayton joining help the Lakers achieve success?
The reason why Ayton was able to beat Doncic in the 2018 draft, Trae Yang and others were elected as the No. 1 pick that year was not because the Suns management made a wrong decision, but his talent and skills were naturally obvious to all.
The 18-year top scorer is 2.13 meters tall and weighs 113 kilograms, with a wingspan of 2.26 meters long, with a standard inside figure, and a typical swaying person at No. 4 or 5.
However, compared with heavy tonnage centers such as Zubac and Walan, Ayton Giant has the flexibility comparable to a defender under his figure, and his outstanding CNB is the signature skill on the field.
It is precisely because of the precise projection that crushed most of the league's insides that Ayton has joined the league's top pick-and-roll terminators.
When Ayton went down the pick-and-roll, we often saw that he often used small throws and half-bass shots to finish the attack. These two moves were tried and tested.
Last season, Ayton scored 1.32 points per round after he was pulled down, surpassing 92% of the league's centers. As expected, the league's top pick-and-roll terminators were not worthy of fame.
It is worth mentioning that Ayton's shooting percentage at the basket last season was as high as 71.7%, and his mid-range efficiency was 47.9% and his performance was also at the top level in the league.
For the Los Angeles Lakers, the most proud signing this summer is to successfully recruit Ayton with a middle-class contract.
The Lakers officially signed Ayton with a two-year contract of $16.6 million. James has gathered the No. 1 pick and Tanhua in the 18th draft since then, which is undoubtedly a good news.
If the Lakers sign Mavin Bagley with a minimum salary, then the Purple and Gold Army will officially gather in the top three in the 18th class, will it create an alternative record?
Ayton's strategic significance for joining the Lakers is not only that the Purple Gold lineup has an additional reliable inside finisher, but his defensive end is also of great significance.
In other words, Ayton's arrival can greatly improve the Lakers' weak inside.
Last season, the Lakers rebounded third from the bottom in the league, and the frame protection was so weak that the opponent asked for it. When Ayton built the Lakers' no-fly zone, it could undoubtedly significantly improve the protection of the penalty area.
After all, Ayton averaged 17.3% rebounds per game, performed well in 10.2 rebounds, and 2.1 frontcourt rebounds once again helped the home team increase their chances of second scoring.
The Lakers have a dual goal in the offseason, that is, to strengthen the lineup last season, and retain enough flexibility to prepare for building the best lineup around Doncic.
Now with the brief joining of Ayton's two-year contract, the Purple Gold Legion inexplicably achieved these two goals at the same time, which is gratifying.
Interestingly, Ayton and Doncic have a lot of connections.
The two belong to the WME agency under Bill Duffy, and even prepared for the game in the same hotel room before the 2018 draft.
Aiton can perfectly fit Doncic's pass system, isn't it?
In the past seven seasons, Ayton averaged 16.4 points, 10.5 rebounds and double-double data, and his shooting percentage was 59%, which was very considerable.
It is worth mentioning that Ayton is also the only player in history to average 15 points with a shooting percentage of no less than 60% in the playoffs, and his strength is obvious to all.
Finally, Ayton successfully filled the vacancy after Davis left, and the Lakers have since successfully created a three-generation, highly layered offensive structure with James (decision) + Doncic (main control) + Ayton (end)
