Eastern Conference executive: The Hawks made a confirmation in disbelief when the Pelicans proposed to send 26 unprotected first round

Basketball

July 3, July 3, recently, an executive of an Eastern Conference team talked about the draft pick deal between the Hawks and the Pelicans.

Previously, the Hawks sent the 13th pick to the Pelicans for the 23rd pick this year and the 2026 unprotected first-round pick (the one with the higher first-round picks in the Pelicans and the Bucks).

The Eastern Conference executive who knew the Hawks' conversation at the time described an incredible scenario: when Pelicans senior vice president Troy Weaver called Hawks senior vice president Bryson Graham, Graham couldn't believe the offer he made. Graham asked the other party for clarification several times to confirm that the unprotected draft pick is indeed part of the deal. At the end of the matter, Hawks general manager Angcy Saleh personally called Pelicans basketball operations president Joe Dumas to confirm. The Eagle waited nervously for Dumas' confirmation, fearing that he would realize what was going on, and then reneged and withdraw the deal. But the Pelicans insisted on the offer, and the Hawks finally agreed to the deal.
