Mavericks Assistant: Russell fits us perfectly and he can replace Irving and play with him
July 23, reporter Keith Smith reported that he discussed the team's new aid Russell with a Mavericks assistant coach, who joined the team with a two-year contract of 11.6 million this summer.
"We have to find a player who can replace Kyrie (Irving) when he is out, but this guy needs to be able to play with Kyrie, and we think Russell fits perfectly," said the Mavericks coach. "We also like him to switch to off-ball when Cooper Flag leads the offense."
Russell played 58 games with the Lakers and the Nets last season, averaging 12.6 points and 5.1 assists per game, and 39/31.4/83.4% from three games.
