Former NBA player Paul Pierce recently interviewed reporter Steve Bulpett, during which he talked about the Celtics in the new season.

"The Celtics are elusive in the new season. It is difficult to really evaluate due to Jason Tatum's injury and the rest of them. But I think they can play well, and they certainly don't get better than last year. You have lost three starters, Tatum, Ju (Holiday) and (Christaps) Porzingis, and you can imagine that they will definitely not perform that well," Pierce said.

"So even though we're going to be in the new season training camp, we're going to think, 'Hey, we can still compete for the championship'. But I mean, every team can promote themselves as the champion team, whether they are or not, that's the norm for the new season training camp," Pierce said.

"But I think the new season is an assessment year for them. I think they have to start assessing, who can stay for a long time, who can't. I decided it's the same every year when I lose, you know Jaylen Brown and Tatum will stay, but then what about the others? Who knows? It's about to evaluate," Pierce said.
