Shams: Webster is promoted to head of basketball operations and general manager

Basketball

reporter Shams reported that Raptors general manager Bobby Webster will be promoted to head of basketball operations.

It is reported that Webster will continue to serve as general manager of the team, retaining the position he has held since 2017. The Raptors said in a press release announcing Webster as head of basketball operations that they will not officially appoint the president at this time.

Webster has been in charge of the Raptors' operations since parting ways with Ujeri in late June. Before promoting Webster, the team conducted an extensive search, including several outside candidates.

Last month, it was reported that Bulls general manager Eversley and Pacers general manager Buchanan were among the candidates for the position. In addition, former Raptors head coach Casey and former Kings general manager McNair are believed to have been interviewed by Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment president Paley.

Shams said that Pelley and Webster worked closely together during the Las Vegas Summer League, which allowed Pelley to understand Webster's management style, and Webster was able to express his vision for the future.

Webster started his career at the NBA headquarters in 2006 and joined the Raptors as Ujeri's first employee in 2013. He initially served as Vice President of Basketball Management and Strategy, and was gradually promoted to Assistant General Manager and then to General Manager.
