The 22-year-old Kumingga young man must understand that he will take a step back and the sky will be wide open.
After the NBA offseason this summer, the Warriors management provided a qualification offer of $7.9 million a year for Kumingga, waiting for other teams to offer him higher quotes. Unfortunately, there was no official quote for Kumingga in the market. There were only reports from the media and reporters. The Kings and Suns were very interested in Kumingga; but the quotes of the two teams could not satisfy the Warriors management, so they chose to refuse.
After going around in circles, the game between the two sides has lasted for more than a month, and no party chooses to make concessions.
According to reporter Jake Fischer, the Warriors management is unwilling to change its quotation of 45 million yuan for two years, and is still insisting on the second year as the team option and is unwilling to give kuming a player option.
As a rookie selected by the Warriors with the seventh pick in the first round of 2021, Kumingga has played in the league for 4 seasons, averaging 12.5 points, 4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 50.7%, a three-point shooting percentage of 33.2%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 69.6%. Last season, he played 47 regular season games for the team, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, shooting percentage of 45.4%, three-point shooting percentage of 30.5%, and free throw shooting percentage of 66.8%.
Compared with the average career data, although Kumingga's scoring, rebounding and assists are better, his offensive efficiency has been much lower. In fact, we are also very clear about why Kumingga's offensive efficiency has declined. That is, after the Warriors got Butler, they further squeezed Kumingga's playing time and offensive ball rights, and often let him take on the role of 3D rather than the core of the ball-holding attack. With his fragmented playing time, Kumingga naturally cannot play a stable offensive and defensive performance, and it is reasonable to feel unhappy inside.
But I can't blame Cole, because in fact, I have given Kumingga a lot of opportunities, but he was unable to grasp it and could not play the offensive and defensive performance expected by the Warriors' management. Since Curry, Butler and Green already have three core core points, it is unrealistic for Kuming to ask for more ball rights. He must become a player like Wiggins in the Warriors system, and can truly help the Warriors win on both offense and defense, so that he can gain Kerr's trust.
Unless he has Durant's unparalleled offensive level, he still cannot gain privileges, and he is even less likely to be out of the Warriors' system. Besides, even if Durant played so hard that he was incomprehensible, Coach Cole still asked him to integrate into the pass and cut system instead of just holding the ball and playing singles.
So, judging from the current market's reaction to Kumingga and his own strength, perhaps taking a step back will make it more suitable for Kumingga. After accepting this offer from the management, he will focus on both offense and defense in the new season, and then demonstrate his offensive ability on this basis, which may be easier to gain the favor of the market.
Otherwise, blindly seeking ball rights and having conflicts with management will not have much practical significance except affecting one's reputation.
After all, no player has ever been able to claim the ball and then gained a surge in combat power before he became a superstar.
Whether it is the Warriors management or Kumingga's team, if this farce continues to be performed, the ultimate loss will be the team's interests and Kumingga's own returns, which will also delay Curry's pursuit of the fifth championship in his career.
According to previous reports, Horford and Melton have reached an oral agreement with the Warriors, and the management is still interested in Curry Jr. and Brogdon, but the Warriors' substantive work of strengthening has not been truly implemented.
General Manager Dunleavy has to hurry up, after all, the offseason has passed, and the more things are delayed, the greater the variables are.
