Basketball

Hupu News on October 21 Recently, Yu Jiahao accepted an interview with "Sports Weekly". In the interview, Yu Jiahao said: In comparison, maybe I need to improve myself in the European arena.

Sports: How did your high school basketball experience in the United States influence your choice to play in Europe? From American high school basketball to the CBA, and now playing in Europe, how do you think your mentality has changed?

Yu Jiahao: I think that experience was definitely of great help to my career. First of all, it was the first time I went abroad. I came to a foreign country to play ball and study at the same time. It was a different experience for my whole mentality and life experience. Before I went abroad, I had a lot of communication with my parents and my team, and I made a lot of determination at that time. Because I was only fifteen or sixteen years old, my parents wanted to send me overseas, and they were not very relieved. I personally feel that this experience will be very helpful for me to return to China to play in the future and to develop now.

Regarding my mentality, I think my high school years in the United States were more of a process of exploration. I wanted to know what basketball was like abroad and what it felt like to play basketball at a higher level. Later, after returning to China due to special reasons, playing in the professional arena was different. After playing professional basketball for several years, I felt it was time to go to a higher stage to experience myself. This is a change in mentality.

Sports: Do you usually communicate with Yang Hansen, Zeng Fanbo and other players who are playing outside?

Yu Jiahao: We communicate, but not very much. Firstly, because of the time difference, and secondly, we all have our own lives. You know, my usual training and life are already relatively tight, let alone theirs. We usually have brief exchanges. For example, with Fan Bo, we had some communication before he went to the Nets. I will also be concerned about his injury and his plans for his future itinerary. I think those of us players who are fighting abroad will have the same feeling, because we are all fighting abroad. Although we usually don’t have a lot of time to communicate, or we communicate frequently on the phone, our feelings in our hearts are actually similar. If we can talk a lot with the national team after returning to China, we may have more feelings.

Sports: Do you think you will be more adaptable to the European basketball system than the NBA?

Yu Jiahao: I think for me, I have actually experienced both the European and American environments, and I am quite adaptable to them. But maybe judging from my current technical characteristics, including the prospects of Chinese basketball in the FIBA arena, I may need to improve myself more in the European arena.

Sports: What do you think are the attractions and challenges of the European Basketball League and the NBA for Chinese players?

Yu Jiahao: I think these are two very different leagues. The NBA may be more suitable for young players who are more talented, because I think the NBA's game style is relatively free and can better utilize their talents and skills. The European side may emphasize teamwork more, and it is more important to read the game and make different judgments based on different opponents.

Sports: What do you think is the biggest obstacle for Chinese players to "go global"? Is it language, culture, strength or concept?

Yu Jiahao: There are many. Language is the most basic. It may be more about personal character that needs improvement. Perhaps the education that foreign children have received since childhood is to communicate more with others, but in China perhaps more children are more reserved and rarely communicate with other people. Communication is actually a very important part of overseas culture. You can let others know your opinions and understand other people's thoughts.

Sports: You experienced high-intensity confrontation in Spain. Does this mean that Chinese players generally need to improve their physical confrontation?

Yu Jiahao: I think it is not only a problem for individual players, but also for the atmosphere of the entire league. Because our league may promote physical confrontation when there is the ball, but many players find it difficult to participate in the game without the ball. I think this also has something to do with foreign aid. Sometimes in China, when foreign aid gets the ball, other players may stand on the sidelines and watch, forgetting what they should do, so I feel that this is the current situation.

Sports: Finally, I would like to ask, what do you want to say most to all the domestic fans who care about and support you?

Yu Jiahao: First of all, thank you very much for your support. I will also work hard to improve myself here and strive to show my best self in the future, whether in the national team or in the league in the future. I also hope to bring some of what I have learned here to Chinese basketball in the future.

In the 4th round of the Spanish Second Division, Cantabria lost to Fuenla Breda 75-90. Chinese player Yu Jiahao played 18 minutes and scored 2 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists on 1 of 3 shots.
