Sporting Lisbon compromises! Arsenal signs Yorke and invests more than 180 million in summer window

Arsenal finally reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon on a transfer of Victor Yorke, the Swedish striker who scored 97 goals (102 games) for the Portuguese Super League champion last season, is about to land in North London. After multiple rounds of tug-of-war, the Gunners completed the transaction with a fixed fee of £55 million + a total price of £8.6 million guaranteed floating clause (£63.6 million), and the player's agent's move to give up the 10% commission became the key to breaking the deadlock.

27-year-old Yorke is the core goal of Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta's forward strengthening this summer - after giving up chasing Benjamin Sesco (Leipzig asked too much), sports director Andrea Berta pushes to sign Yorke. Negotiations have stagnated due to Sporting Lisbon's insistence on a £70 million asking price, and Yorke's "strike" (refusing to participate in pre-season training on July 13) further intensified the conflict with club chairman Frederico Valandas.

In the end, both sides made a move in terms of price: Arsenal's fixed fee increased from the initial £50 million to £55 million, and the floating terms were linked to "number of appearances + team results" (the total price after full trigger was 63.6 million pounds); Yorke's agent voluntarily gave up the 10% commission (about £5.5 million) to ensure the transaction was completed, which shows the players' determination to join Arsenal.

Yorkecres has signed a five-year contract with Arsenal and will compete for the Premier League championship in the Gunners' gown. The technical characteristics of this Swedish international (3.2 successful confrontations per game + 1.8 key passes) are regarded as perfectly adapting to Arteta's 4-3-3 system. His arrival fills the gap in "pure center" - last season, Arsenal missed scoring opportunities at critical moments due to lack of stable finishers.

This summer, Arsenal has signed Martin Zubimendi (midfielder), Christian Nogo (midfielder), and Kepa Arizabalaga (goalkeeper), with a total cost of £71 million; the deal for Noni Marduk (windback, £52 million) is also about to be completed. Yorkress's joining marks the ending stage of the Gunners' summer window reinforcement, and the lineup depth is enough to support the "multi-line championship competition".

For Sporting Lisbon, £63.6 million was lower than expected, but Yorke's tough attitude (which made it clear that "only to Arsenal") left them with no choice. Arsenal conveyed his determination to win the championship through this deal - since the undefeated season in 2004, the Gunners have missed the Premier League championship for 20 years, with a total investment of more than 180 million pounds this summer, with the goal directly aiming to end the championship drought.

As the industry analyst said: "The arrival of Yorke has changed Arsenal's forward from 'with shortcomings' to 'no weaknesses'. Next, it depends on whether Arteta can combine this lineup into a championship team."
