The Warriors Big Three annual salary is 170 million! Crush out 5.8 million yuan in basic salary, setting a record age gap
The Warriors' free agent signing targets have joined other teams, and other signings have also been hindered by Kumingga's contract negotiations. With Kevin Rooney leaving during the offseason, the overall lineup of the Warriors is not as strong as last season. Although there are still some ways to make the Warriors a competitive team in the West, they are still widely questioned at this stage. As long as we look at the current players available to the Warriors, they are not only not like a team that can win the championship, but instead look more like a lottery team. The current lineup of the Golden State Warriors is as follows:
PG: Stephen Curry, Yuri Collins, Taran Armstrong
SG: Brandin Pojmsky, Buddy Hilde
SF: Jimmy Butler, Moses Moody
PF: Draymond Green, Gui Santos
C: Quentin Post, Teres Jackson Davis, Hunemar Fajado
The main problem with the current lineup of the Golden State Warriors is that they are top-heavy and lack depth. The talent from point guards to center Warriors has been significantly reduced compared to last season. This phenomenon cannot be explained by a veteran team eager to win the championship. The total annual salary of the Big Three is as high as US$170 million, accounting for 76% of the total salary. The total annual salary of substitutes except the main rotation players is only US$5.8 million, which can be said to be the cheapest bench in the league. In addition, the average age of the main rotation players of the Warriors is as high as 31.4 years old, while the substitute players are only 22.1 years old. The age difference breaks the NBA historical record, which can be said to be a serious failure.
In the position of point guard, Curry is still one of the most threatening players on the court even though he is 37 years old. The Warriors defender averaged 24.5 points and 6 assists per game, and is still one of the best defenders in the league. But what's so bad is that Curry has a huge talent gap, and only players of the bench are Yuri Collins and Taran Armstrong. Collins spent his rookie season with the Warriors, but averaged only 8 minutes of playing time, scoring 1 point and 2 assists. Armstrong is a Development League player with a two-way contract. The position of the
shooting guard is less worrying, as it has both Podjemsky and Hield, both of whom played a crucial role in the team last season and became important rotation players. Podjemski's sophomore statistics have increased, averaging 11.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Meanwhile, Hilder is still a stable rotation player, averaging 11.1 points per game, shooting 41.7% from the field and 37% from three-pointers. The Warriors' frontcourt is the most problematic place. Although Jimmy Butler is the starting small forward, the Warriors may lose this important asset of Jonathan Cumingga in the offseason. Despite rumors that Kumingga is about to reach some kind of agreement with the team to stay with the team because he is not interested in the free agent market, the 22-year-old is expected to be traded before the mid-season trading deadline. In this case, the Warriors will be forced to turn to Moody as their backup small forward.
At the same time, Kumingga's absence will also have a huge impact on the depth of the power forward position, as the Warriors lack Green's reliable substitute. Since Kumingga is only a matter of time before he withdraws from the rotation, the Warriors will have to count on Santos to play a bigger role. But last season, Santos averaged 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Compared with the best defensive player like Green, who averaged 9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game last season, the gap in this position is not small.
The Warriors' center rotation is relatively the most promising position. Post and TJD are both seen as valuable assets for the team. Post's space plays a lot by comparison, while TJD is a more traditional inside line, the pair already form a steady inside rotation, but their relative lack of experience may become a burden in the playoffs.
In view of the above analysis, although there are some talented players in the Warriors' roster, there are too many big issues to be solved before they are seen as truly competitive teams in the West. Another key issue they will undoubtedly face next season is their aging core, and all three players need a break during the season to stay healthy in the playoffs, which can be a big problem for a team aiming to rank among the top ten in the West.
Considering the strengthening of the Western Conference team next season, at least 10 teams will be better than the current Warriors. These teams include: Thunder, Rockets, Nuggets, Clippers, Timberwolves, Pelicans, Lakers, Spurs, Grizzlies and Suns. The Warriors' offseason did not go as planned, but that doesn't mean that all hopes are shattered. With some talented players emerging in the free agent market, the Warriors still have the opportunity to strengthen their roster this offseason, with more and more people in the league saying the Warriors will soon sign two key players, Al Horford and D'Anthony Melton.. In addition to gold hunting in the free agent market, the Warriors can also consider making necessary transactions, especially using assets like Kuminga to exchange for some competitive players.
