48 hours after the Europa League loses! Manchester United withdraws scouts + medical department, 200 people will lose their jobs

Manchester United has notified some football staff that they will be laid off by the last weekend of the Premier League season. Sir Ratcliff has implemented a series of cost-cutting measures at Manchester United on Friday that some employees at the Carrington training base were laid off, less than 48 hours after the UEFA Cup final defeat.

First-line related positions, including scouts and medical departments, were told that they would lose their jobs, and the decision to lay off jobs directly related to first-team affairs will be postponed until the end of the season. Manchester United sources said that this round of layoffs is expected to involve 200 employees, most of whom have been previously told that they are at risk of unemployment. But some football staff didn't learn about their fate until Friday - the club had previously hoped to avoid turmoil during the UEFA Cup final sprint stage and pre-match preparations against Tottenham.

The finals are now over, with only one Premier League final game left. The affected employees of the football department are gradually receiving notices of layoffs. Some people were told that their positions will be gradually cancelled and they cannot continue to stay in the team.

This dynamic further hit the morale of the Carrington base - especially in the context of losing 0-1 to Tottenham and missing the Champions League next season (which led to a budget gap of £100 million). Manchester United has lost more than 370 million pounds in the past five years.

It should be noted that this round of layoffs has nothing to do with the final defeat, but is part of the original plan to lay off 150 to 200 people. This is another round of layoffs after 250 people were laid off last year.

When Inex took over football operations in February 2024, Manchester United's employees were about 1,100, and now it is expected to be reduced to about 650. It was one of a series of cost-cutting measures promoted by Sir Jim Ratcliff, who himself attended the finals in Bilbao with co-owner Afram Glazer.

Despite losing the game, the club held a barbecue for first-team players and their families as originally planned.
