Manchester City "abandoned" Florian Wilz s transfer, only one main reason

Pep Guardiola reportedly is eager to sign Florian Wilz.

Manchester City has reportedly decided to "quit" the battle for Liverpool target Leverkusen player Florian Wilz.

In recent weeks, Wiltz has been rumored to be joining Manchester City because he has the potential to replace Kevin De Bruyne, who is about to leave the team.

It is reported that the German international may follow Xavi Alonso to leave Leverkusen this summer, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid all interested him.

The 22-year-old has become one of Europe's best offensive midfielders, and has scored 31 goals in various competitions this season.

Wilz has proven himself eligible to transfer to a top club, but Leverkusen is still in a favorable negotiating position as his contract will last until 2027.

In terms of transfer fees, the cost of signing Wilz should be more than £100 million, and other fees are required to complete the transaction with Leverkusen.

Wilz is an ideal replacement for de Bruyne, but they have proven that they are reluctant to pay too much for the goal they like and have "quit" the competition to sign Leverkusen's precious assets.

According to BBC sports journalist Sami Mokbel, he claimed that Manchester City quit because "the cost of any deal is too high".

Mokbel pointed out that if Wilz was signed, it would be "the biggest deal in Manchester City's history, including transfer fees and wages, which could amount to as much as 300 million euros".

Manchester City allegedly felt "concerned" about Wilz's transfer fee "too high", although he was "recognized as one of the most outstanding young players in European football".

The report also hints at who can be used to replace De Bruyne and proposes internal and external options. The

report states that the battle for

exit from Wiltz should also be seen as a commitment to Phil Foden's role in Guardiola's plan. Foden has long been seen as the long-term heir to the outgoing De Bruyne, and Wiltz's joining may put the British player's position in Guardiola's plan to question.

But as far as the situation is concerned, Wirtz is not expected to join. Manchester City will continue to look for new creative midfielders in the transfer market - Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs White is one of the options.

Fabrizio Romano also reported that Manchester City had withdrawn from the competition after "initial contact" with Wiltz.

He tweeted: "Manchester City has now abandoned negotiations with Florian Wilz. The negotiations have never made progress and have not entered the final stage, just preliminary contact, but Manchester City believes the full package is too expensive, as @SamiMokbel_BBC reported. Morgan Gibbs-White is still on Manchester City's shortlist.
