June 20th During the 2025 Club World Cup, FIFA released a report on the history and characteristics of each participating team. However, the report sparked controversy over calculating the number of champions in Boca Youth and Riverbed.

According to the report, River Plate became the most successful club in South America with 65 official competition titles, while Boca Youth has 55 titles. This has caused widespread discussion on social media, as the report does not count the achievements of both teams in their amateur era.

River Plate posted two posts on its social media highlighting their leading position in the official record and said it was hailed by FIFA as a benchmark for global football. Both posts remain despite FIFA's final deletion of the controversial documents. According to data from the Argentine Football Association (AFA), in the professional era, Boca youth had 60 titles and 69 were in the Riverbed. If the achievements of the amateur era are added, the Boca Youth leads the 72 of the Riverbed with 74 championships.

However, FIFA did not exclude the trophys received in the amateur era when counting the honors of other clubs. For example, Real Madrid's trophy before its professionalization in 1929 was also included in its honor list, and the same situation was reflected in Benfica, Porto, Bayern, Inter Milan, Juventus, Cairo Nationals and Vadard.
