Wes Brown: Liverpool is the favorite in the double red club. If Manchester United wins, it may change the future direction

In an interview on October 18, Wes Brown reviewed his experience against Liverpool as a player, and expressed his views on this weekend's double red meeting, the two teams' summer signings, and the performance of Manchester United's new signings.

The games against Liverpool during your playing days are always full of stories. Can you share some of your memories?

That was a very big game for me. Obviously, you also have the Manchester derby, but for me this game always feels a little different. This is the most important league. There's a lot of pressure and as players I feel like this is a game we have to win. I remember we won 3-0 at Old Trafford in 2008 and I scored the first goal. I intercepted the ball myself at first. To be honest, as soon as I crossed the half-court line, I looked at Sir Alex and thought, "Will he tell me to go back?" But I continued to run forward, Rooney passed the ball, and I got ahead of Dudek and hit the goal with the back of my head. That feels great.

Manchester United will visit Anfield this weekend, while Liverpool suffered three consecutive defeats before the international break. What do you think about the prospects of this game?

Although Liverpool's form has declined, they are still the favorites in the game. I think it might take some pressure off United. You have to try to take chances when the opponent is not in form and Liverpool are a bit down at the moment and this is an opportunity where I think you can maybe get something out of the game. This is a very good time for Manchester United. If they can win there, that could change the course of the future in a big way.

As the defending champion, Liverpool faces this focus game after a losing streak. Will they bear the pressure?

Will Liverpool feel a little pressure? Of course it will. They're not living up to their standards at the moment and they're going to give it their all. It just means United have to be too. Liverpool will want to make a statement. They are still champions. After this minor falter, they will make sure to come back strong. They will understand that this game is crucial for them in the next month, and it is also a big battle for their fans.

Liverpool spent 446 million pounds to introduce 10 new players in the summer, while Manchester United also spent 236 million pounds. How do you evaluate the signings of the two teams?

I think Liverpool are still getting used to the players they brought in. Did they bring in too many players too soon? We don't know yet. But at the same time, they did bring in quality players. Whether these high-level players have delivered for Liverpool is a matter of personal opinion. They had the opportunity to acquire these players and they took full advantage of it. Yes, it's not working 100 percent yet, but I always think it's a good thing when you bring in high-level players to bolster your roster.

There are a lot of positives about Manchester United's signings, but I still think we haven't seen their best yet. They bring positive factors to the team, a little more fluidity.

Specifically, how do you evaluate the performance of Manchester United's new players?

Mbemo is probably the best player. He often gets the ball, creates space for himself and helps the team move forward. Defenders gave him the respect he deserved. They will sit back and not dare to attack easily because they know what he can do. I think Mbemo and Amad can be a huge threat on the right.

Sheshko always seems to be in the right spot, and you can see his confidence building up little by little.

Cunha, I don't think he's at his level yet, but you can see the potential, he seems to have a different quality that I'm looking forward to seeing more of.

New goalkeeper Lamence made his debut against Sunderland and kept a clean sheet. What is your impression of him?

I liked what I saw against Sunderland. He comes into the team with a good spirit and confidence and everything he does looks good to me. This is something we have needed for some time to stabilize the situation. There is no doubt that Schmeichel and Van der Sar both showed dominance.

Lamence certainly showed those qualities in that one game against Sunderland, which is not to get too excited about him. He looks very commanding and although, yes, it's only one game and he's going to Anfield now, I think we can expect a lot from him.
