August 5th News Today is the 63rd birthday of the Knicks center Patrick Ewing. Let's wish him a happy birthday together.

Ewing was born in Kingston, Jamaica on August 5, 1962. He was selected by the New York Knicks as the No. 1 pick in the 1985 NBA Draft, and has played for the Knicks, the Supersonics (now the Thunder) and the Magic in his career.

Ewing was selected as the NBA Rookie of the Year in his rookie season, and was selected into the NBA All-Star lineup 11 times. In 1990, he was selected into the NBA All-Series first team, 6 times second team, and 3 times second team. Ewing followed the United States to win two Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1992.

In 2002, Ewing announced his retirement. On February 28, 2003, the New York Knicks retired Ewing's No. 33 jersey. On September 6, 2008, Ewing was selected for the Nai Smith Basketball Celebrity Memorial.

Ewing played in a total of 1,183 regular season games, averaging 21 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.4 blocks per game, and played 139 times in the playoffs, and averaged 20.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.2 blocks per game.
