The best lineup is released! James makes history again, Harden takes the last bus, and no one from the Rockets is selected
On May 24, the NBA officially announced the 2024-25 season's Best Team of the Year. The specific list of selected lists is as follows:
40-year-old LeBron James was selected for the Best Team No surprise. This is the 21st time in his career that he has won this honor, once again setting a historical record that he has maintained.
This season, James played 70 regular season games for the Lakers in his 22nd season of his career, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game, shooting percentage of 51.3% and three-point shooting percentage of 37.6%. Not only did he lead the Lakers to the playoffs as the third in the Western Conference, he also scored 16 points in the MVP selection, surpassing Jordan to become the oldest player to win MVP votes in history. James ranked seventh in total in the All-Squad vote, second only to Edwards in the second team.
The selection of the best team this time also sets James three historical records:
①, 21 selected for the best team, continuing to set the historical record, far surpassing Kobe, Duncan and Jabbar (15 times);
②, selected for 21 consecutive years, becoming the only player in history to achieve this;
③, selected for the best team at the age of 40, continuing to set the oldest record he has maintained.
What's more amazing is that James' 21-time selections to the best team are on par with the combined total of two major basketball masters Michael Jordan (11 times) and Wilt Chamberlain (10 times), and is worthy of being the evergreen in the league.
Currently, James has one year left in his contract with the Lakers ($52.6 million player option). If he chooses to continue playing, he will usher in his 23rd season of his career, enjoying the longest career record in the NBA history. In addition to James, another veteran James Harden also returned to the All-A-Series after two years. He defeated Shin Kyung with 68 points and successfully won the last place to be selected for the All-A-Series. This is also the 8th time he was selected for the All-A-Series in his career, including 6 first-time teams and 2 third-time teams. This season's regular season, Harden averaged 22.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game, helping the Clippers achieve a record of 50 wins and 32 losses. However, in the first round of the playoffs, the Clippers lost 3-4 to the Nuggets, and Harden's averaged 18.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 9.1 assists per game failed to lead the team to go further.
The biggest controversy in this best team selection comes from the Rockets. As the second team in the West (52 wins and 30 losses) and fourth record in the league, the Rockets were not selected for the best team. Center Alperen Shin-kyung was unfortunately defeated with a 58-point voting score, only 10 points away from Harden (68 points) in the third team.
Shen Jing was selected as the All-Star for the first time this season, averaging 19.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game, shooting 49.6% from the field, and scored 45 double-doubles (seventh in the league). Houston media said indignantly: "The selection of the best team is more like a popular competition, and Shin Kyung's honor has been deprived."
There have been similar cases in NBA history before. In the 2021-22 season, the Heat were also no one selected as the first in the Eastern Conference (53 wins and 29 losses). Butler (32 points) and Adebayo (28 points) ranked second and third in the players who were out of the list respectively.
There are also no one in the 2014-15 season (60 wins and 22 losses, first in the Eastern Conference) and no one was selected, and Millsap (70 points) and Horford (64 points) were also unfortunately lost.
newcomers are constantly emerging, but 40-year-old James is still making history, and Shin Kyung's failure has once again triggered discussions on the criteria for selecting the best team. Is personal data more important or is the team's record more important? This topic is destined to continue to be hotly discussed by fans and media in the future.
